USGS Maps

The USGS maps for the United States show over 1,900,000 features. The problem with searching for a cemetery, populated place or locale is remembering all of the places you are curious about. We have provided a simple index for many of the features shown on USGS Topographical maps. (Click the state links to the left for the indexes). By browsing these alphabetical lists, you may find a place of interest to your research (some are current and some are "historical" and many of these you may not have considered before).

We are providing a link to the Geographic Information Names System (GNIS) below. After you find a point of interest in our alphabetical list, follow the link below, and  search for that feature.

When the list is returned, click on the feature name for details. There will be a section to the right titled, "Mapping Services". Using those links you will be able to display a map of the area, driving directions and even an aerial photo!

Click here for the search (or query) form. (A new window will open.)
